About Us
The tradition of St Matthew’s would be described as Broad Church. The activity of the church is based around the Sunday services from which we gain strength to develop our spirituality, hospitality and mission. Our current short term objectives are detailed in the Committed to Growth Plan.
The present pattern of services is:
Sunday 08.00am Holy Communion - Common Worship / Traditional Language
10.30am Holy Communion - Common Worship / Contemporary language and children’s church
1st Sunday of the month - All Age Worship
1st Sunday of the month - 4.30pm Evening Prayer (winter) 5.30pm (summer)
9.30am Holy Communion, Wednesday morning
Baptism is usually part of the 10.30am service on the 1st Sunday of the month but baptisms can be held at other times following discussion, and the needs of families.
Other special services are held throughout the year such as Holy Week, Christmas, Advent, All Souls, and Harvest.
The Worship Team, currently led by Reader Irene Beckett, contributes to discussion about service content especially for special services.
Clergy wear vestments (usually cassock albs) and are assisted by servers.
Members of the congregation read lessons, lead intercessions, and assist with the chalice.
